You have probably heard parents admit that parenting is the most demanding work they have ever done and that nothing in the whole world is as important to them as their young ones.

Now there’s a new revolution. Once again, the voices are rising up. The message is singular and strong. It’s coming from Hollywood and Hosmer and all places in between. Celebrities and teenagers and my seven-year-old. It won’t waver and it won’t disappear. Kindness. #bekind. It’s everywhere.

Some of us look back on our teenage years with fondness as we recall the freedom, friends, and fun we had. A sense of nostalgia might have us smiling about a simpler time, but sometimes we forget the pressures that go along with being young.

For six years Shelby has been documenting her children’s lives. Squeals of delight and sprinklers and cannon balls. It’s all there, typed out on yellowing clips of folded paper with a stamp-sized picture of her face at the top.

Join Santa down at Montane Barn for pictures with the Minis by Kyle Hamilton ($10 for 5 x 7, $20 for an 8 x 10).

There will be hot cocoa and apple cider, Christmas carolers, fire pits to warm up by and Mike Penny will be wood carving and selling some of his sculptures. They will also be rolling out their Miniature Herd Sponsorship program.

Join the Fernie Heritage Library for cider, stories, treats and activities for all ages. This annual event is a wonderful chance to connect with your neighbours. The afternoon concludes with a rousing community Christmas carol led by local community musicians. All are welcome.

As the holidays approach, our Editor tends to become a sentimental mess. Even more so now that she has children. Decades of memories are layered within her mind, creating a general feeling of longing for this time of year and all that it brings.

Jeri Mitchell and I run a Christmas Cheer Committee with the help of a few Elves here in Fernieto spread kindness and cheer throughout the Christmas Holidays and year round if someone or a family needs help.
