Art on the Deck is back at The Arts Station and better than ever! Each week they will be focusing on a different medium each week, with demos and facilitation led by experts in each respective medium! This is the perfect chance to learn something new or develop your skills with other like minded people. Supervised drop in for new potters looking to develop their skills. This is self led but a pottery supervisor will be on hand to answer any questions and advise on safety in the studio.

Drop in requires you to have completed basic pottery skill workshops and is an option if you are looking to develop your skills independently. Proof of experience will be required by taking Arts Station Clay Basics or equivalent.

The Elk Valley will once again be part of the regional organics program after the Elk Valley Directors reversed a decision earlier this year and voted in favour of re-joining the East Kootenay Regional Organics Strategy and constructing an organics processing facility at the Sparwood Transfer Station.

This workshop is designed for complete beginners who are looking to start their journey into the world of pottery. Instructor Dejana will teach the basics of pottery for handbuilding including preparing clay, tools & uses, pottery process, creating your first pieces and trimming them.

This workshop will take place via zoom. The first half will be watching and learning the basic processes. The second half will allow you to give it a go with a Clay Basics take home pack which includes required clay and tools. Dejana will be on hand to advise and answer your questions.

I knew I could draw and paint from an early age. but I didn’t start painting seriously until nearing retirement from my regular job. My wife, Bev, bought me a Robert Bateman book for my birthday and I knew then that painting was something I would like to do. About the wildlife art I looked at, I said, “I can do that!”

Thanks to a fantastic grant opportunity from the Columbia Basin Trust, the Fernie Trails Alliance is able to hire for five, temporary summer positions, to work on our 2021 Trail Maintenance Program.

ABOUT: The trail network in Fernie, BC is one of the biggest assets in our community. The FTA is looking to hire a motivated Trail Crew Supervisor, along with four Crew members, to work on the 2021 Trail Maintenance Program.

Part of FYAN’s teen mental health and leaderships series, this interesting and engaging growth focused workshop will help teens learn to set healthy boundaries and give them the skills and tools to lean into hard conversations, be more assertive and authentically confident.
