Ferne Awareness and Accountability Project
This Sunday, June 14 from 2-4 pm the Awareness and Accountability Proejct is hosting a Listening Project to show our solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement - everyone is invited to join the conversation.
As a small predominantly white community this group recognizes that many citizens of the Elk Valley may not immediately see how these global issues impact us. The hope is that by raising awareness, community members will better understand the impact of white privilege and how they can help people of colour, Indigenous men and women, and all those who do not have the same privileges as someone with white skin, gain equality.
"Our town is not exempt from the hatred and the bigotry that arises when good people do nothing. We want to be open and honest and curious so that we can better ourselves in a search for equality for all. We aim to provide resources and materials for businesses who would like to learn more about anti-racism training and how to address these topics in the workplace. Please feel free to drop by and chat with us on the east side of 2nd Avenue and 6th street on Sunday from 2-4 pm. We are maintaining proper protocols for social distancing by encouraging everyone to bring their own masks, though there will be a few available if some people forget. Bring your own pen in case you want to sign up for further resources and materials."
