Historic Cemetery Tours: Disasters and Delinquents

Event Date:
Saturday, August 12, 2017
2:30pm - 3:30pm

St. Margaret’s Cemetery, like much of Fernie, was established by the Crow’s Nest Pass Coal Company to provide a burial place for those who perished from disease or disaster. In continuous operation since in the late 1800s. As a result, the cemetery tells the stories of those that came to Fernie from across Canada and around the globe seeking a better life and to profit in one fashion or another from the rich coal seams of the Elk Valley.

The Disasters and Delinquents Cemetery Tour highlights the various disasters, traumas and crimes that faced Fernie between 1897 and the 1940s. Participants meet their guide at the Fernie Museum and drive to the cemetery in their own vehicles, a short 10 minute drive.

The tour will take place in all weather conditions. Please wear appropriate footwear for walking outside on slightly uneven ground. A weatherproof warm jacket, an umbrella and of course your camera are encouraged.

In partnership with the Lost Souls Society.

Tickets are available at the Fernie Museum.
