In partnership with School District No. 5 (Southeast Kootenay), the Rocky Mountain International Student Program is urgently seeking host families for international students who will be studying at Fernie Secondary School in Grades 8 to 12 starting in September. Students are from Austria, Germany, Spain and Mexico and will be staying either for one semester or one school year.

Host families come in all shapes and sizes, from nuclear families with school-aged children to retired couples and single parents. Host families receive a tax-free allowance of $705 per month per student, and weekend and/or vacation coverage is available. Placements for September are finalized in June.

The Fernie community has been welcoming international high school students since 2004. Judging by the large number of return visits, Fernie has made a lasting impression on those students and many life-long friendships have been established! In a recent exit survey, a German student commented, “The best thing about Fernie is the incredible kindness and politeness of the people!”
